The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) definies developmental disabilities as a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. About one in six children in the U.S. has one or more developmental disabilities or other developmental delays. Common developmental disabilities include autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Fragile X syndrome, and more (cdc.gov).
Intellectual disability is used to describe limits to a person’s ability to learn at an expected level and function in daily life (cdc.gov). Many services for individuals with DD and their families are also relevant for those with intellectual disabilities. Learn more at cdc.gov.
